There’s something about fall in North Carolina that makes it feel like the perfect time to slow down and capture your family exactly as they are right now. The warm light, changing leaves, cozy layers, and crisp evenings make fall one of my favorite seasons for family portraits.

Are 15 Minutes Really Enough for Family Photos?
Yes! This is probably one of the most common questions I hear about mini sessions.
Fifteen minutes might sound quick, especially if you have young children, but that’s where experience makes such a difference. After more than a decade of photographing families and children, I know how to move through a session efficiently without making it feel rushed.
You don’t need your children to stand perfectly still and smile at the camera for 15 minutes. In fact, I don’t want them to.
We’ll get the classic everyone-looking-at-the-camera portrait, but we’ll also let your kids move, snuggle, laugh, play, and be themselves. I’ll guide you through everything so you never have to wonder what to do with your hands or how to get your little one to cooperate.
A professional photographer knows how to recognize those tiny moments as they’re happening—and 15 minutes is plenty of time to create a gallery full of them.

What Should You Wear for Fall Family Photos?
You don’t have to dress everyone in matching outfits to create a cohesive family gallery. Instead, think about coordinating colors, textures, and tones.
Warm neutrals, creams, browns, muted greens, rust, dusty blues, denim, and soft earthy colors photograph beautifully in the fall. Layers and texture—like knits, linen, corduroy, and sweaters—can also add dimension without distracting from your family.
Most importantly, choose clothing that feels like you and that everyone can comfortably move around in.
